HELICOPTERS AND PLANES

In a country with vast remote areas, planes and helicopters still play an important role, and not only for tourists. Some of the most spectacular helicopter tours can be found over the Southern Alps or above the volcanos in Tongariro National Park. A number of floatplanes operate on various lakes for sightseeing flights and Air Chatham operates the ‘good old’ DC3 and Convair 580 on scheduled regular routes as well on a charter basis. The owner & founder of Maori Trails himself is a ‘plane enthusiastic’ and has established a wide network of contacts among air companies and flying schools.
