Try one of our recommended day walks for a few hours or plan a multi-day hike on one of 8 ‘Great Walks’ of New Zealand. Two of our favorites are the Tongariro Northern Circuit, encircling Mt. Ngauruhoe, an active volcano in Tongariro National Park and the often underrated Heaphy Track on South Island’s West Coast, an ancient Maori trail. We recommend to organize both day- and multiple day hikes to be fully guided, either in small groups or completely private.
